Don’t miss this year’s seasonal favorite tradition, The Nutcracker Ballet, an experience sure to bring joy to all ages as Sole City Dance presents the famous story once again in the intimate, historic setting of the Rochester Opera House December 4-7. Sole City, which is in its 20th anniversary season of performing the ballet, presents the tale in classic ways, honoring the beauty of the traditional choreography and Tchaikovsky’s majestic score, while peppering it with fun fresh twists.
SCD takes delight in telling the Nutcracker story with humor, charm and fetching characterizations showcasing students from a half-dozen area studios and often featuring both young and advanced dancers in the same scenes. This year, beloved Mother Ginger makes her return, but as a ringmaster, opening her tent-like skirt to unleash the energy of young circus performers.
In addition to the technical ballet choreography, they also showcase acro and aerial dance, making for a more diverse palette of talent.
This year, Sole City is pleased to be presenting Emma Guertin and Clay Murray as the professional guest artists to perform the roles of Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier, both dancers hailing from Ballet Rhode Island.
Go again to see what’s new, or if you’ve never sampled SCD’s Nutcracker, please consider adding a performance to your calendar. It’s a sweet holiday treat!
